Ginter Park UMW History
In February 1918, twenty-five women meeting in a neighborhood home began the "Women's Missionary Society." The society's first aim was to have a missionary in the foreign field to be supported by the organizations of the Church. By September of that year there was $76 in the group's treasury. The women met in their homes until March 1922, when the first meeting was held in the church. By this time the society was organized into circles, had study courses and had programs related to United Methodist Conference work. The 1923 budget of $466 included support of a Bible woman, Ferrum College, Wilson Home, the City Missionary and Scarritt College. There were 43 members at that time.
