The Ginter Park United Methodist Church Chancel Choir Consists of approximately 18 singers and is directed by Ronald W. Davis, Organist-Minister of Music. A section leader
in each choral unit assists the Music Director in teaching their fellow musicians notes, vocal production and the Section Leaders provide a stable ensemble sound for each choral section. Withing the Choir, many members also play other instruments including flute, recorder, bassoon, tuba, harpsichord and viole de gamba. THe choral repertoire if the Chancle Choir covers a wide range of traditional Church music over a span of 500 years. The music selections are designed to complement and maintain a traditional worship style and provide a worship atmosphere for the Liturgy.
During special services of the church, the Chancel Choir adds additional music to the services. Advent II has become a tradition when major choral works are a large part of the Liturgy and the Choir is complemented using several additional singers and other instruments. In the past, Advent III services have included "Ceremony of Carols"(Britten), Buxtehude Cantatas, English Choral Music, an all Bach program, and Handel's Messiah (Advent/Christmas Section). Other services where the musical offerings are enhanced include Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Palm Sunday, Easter Sunday and several services that celebrate God and Country.Persons desiring to join the GPUMC Chancel Choir should contact Ron Davis. Regular rehearsals are held each Sunday at 9:00 A.M. in the Choir Room. Several extra rehearsals may be held during the church year. As an added honor 6 members of the GPUMC Chancel Choir and their Director were the choral nucleus of a choir that sang at a number of events in Normandy, France, the first week of June 2004 in the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the D-Day landings. A concert was also presented at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
